About this file
“Remove all metadata” clears the details on the left and the dates, and deletes the hidden XML metadata. It cannot remove text or images inside the pages themselves.
Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
What is PDF metadata?
Metadata is information stored in a PDF besides the pages themselves: the title, author, subject and keywords, the program that created the file, and the creation and modification dates. Many PDFs also carry a second copy in a hidden XML block. It is invisible when you read the document but easy to see in the file’s properties.
Why would I remove it?
Metadata can reveal more than you intend. An author field may hold a real name or a company, and the creator and dates can show which program and computer you used and when. Removing it before you publish or send a file keeps those details private.
Will it change how the document looks?
No. Editing or removing metadata does not alter the pages, text or images. It only changes the details stored about the file.
What does flattening a form do?
A fillable form keeps its answers in fields that can still be edited. Flattening turns the filled-in fields into ordinary page content, so the answers can no longer be changed and look the same in every viewer. Tick the option on this page, then save.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read and rewritten in your browser, so the document never leaves your device. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
