IPC to BNS Converter & Section Search
Start typing a section number or keyword above (e.g. "theft", "302", "cheating").
Since the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on 1 July 2024, most day-to-day drafting work needs a quick IPC-to-BNS or BNS-to-IPC lookup — this tool cross-references both codes section by section so you get the punishment, bailability, cognizability and the equivalent section in the other code in one result.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the BNS section equivalent to an IPC section?
Type the IPC section number (e.g. "302") into the search box above with "Both" selected. The matching result card shows the section's own details plus its "Equivalent BNS/IPC Section" field, so you can jump straight to the corresponding provision in the other code.
Is this IPC to BNS converter free to use?
Yes — searching, and every other tool on Nyay Sahayak, is free with no sign-up required.
Does the search cover repealed IPC sections?
Sections that were already repealed before BNS came into force (for example by the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988) are intentionally left out, since they no longer correspond to any BNS provision.
