Frequently asked questions
How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the price by the GST rate and add the result to the price. For example, 18% GST on 1,000 is 180, so the price including GST is 1,180. Choose "Add GST", enter the price and pick the rate.
How do I remove GST from a GST-inclusive price?
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the price before tax. For example, 1,180 including 18% GST is 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = 1,000, so the GST is 180. Choose "Remove GST" and enter the inclusive price. Note this is not the same as subtracting 18% from the total.
What are CGST, SGST and IGST?
For a sale within one state, the GST is split equally between the central government (CGST) and the state government (SGST), so 18% GST is 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. For a sale between two states, the whole amount is charged as IGST. The total tax is the same either way.
Which GST rate applies to my item?
It depends on the item or service and can change when the GST Council revises the rates. The quick buttons show common rates, including older ones that still apply to some items and past invoices, and you can type any custom rate. Check the official rate schedule for your product.
