Calorie Calculator

An estimate of the calories your body uses each day, and what that means for your weight goal.

BMR (at complete rest)

Calories to maintain weight

GoalCalories per day

These are estimates from a standard formula, not medical advice, and real needs vary from person to person. Do not eat much less than you need without medical supervision. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18 or have a health condition, speak to a doctor or dietitian first.

Frequently asked questions

What are BMR and TDEE?

BMR (basal metabolic rate) is the energy your body uses at complete rest for breathing, circulation and keeping warm. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is BMR multiplied by an activity factor, and is roughly the number of calories you need to stay at the same weight.

Which formula does this use?

The Mifflin-St Jeor equation: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5 for men, or − 161 for women. It is widely regarded as one of the more accurate formulas for healthy adults.

How many calories should I cut to lose weight?

A common rule of thumb is that about 7,700 kcal equals 1 kg of body weight, so a daily deficit of 500 kcal leads to roughly 0.5 kg lost a week. A slow, steady loss is easier to keep up, and results vary between people.

How accurate is the result?

It is an estimate. Muscle mass, genetics, medical conditions, medicines and how you really move through the day all change your true needs. Treat the figure as a starting point, watch how your weight changes over a few weeks, and adjust.
